12/21 Valpo vs. Southeastern
With his full compliment of players ready to go for the first time all year, Coach Drew was blessed to have the opportunity to have his team play a game like this. In what amounted to be a game worthy of an early November exhibition, Drew and the Crusaders rolled to a 43 point victory in UCF’s holiday tournament in Orlando, Fl.

Star freshman Alec Peters was the team leader in PPS, using a 4-5 effort from 3 point range and only playing 16 minutes really helped boost his score tonight. As a whole the team rolled to a very high overall PPS behind an incredible 15-24 night from behind the arc (62.5%). It should be noted that they did miss 6 in a row from outside at one point in the second half. This team still commits too many turnovers and a lot of fouls, but besides Southeastern who apparently doesn’t guard anybody close enough to commit any fouls (10 on the night), what team doesn’t foul a lot in the NCAA anymore? Tomorrow’s night game against tournament host UCF, a rematch from earlier in the year when Valpo won by 15 at home, should be a good one and can be seen on ESPN3.
Valpo PPS – pre Keith Carter
We are 12 games in and while the team will be playing at full strength from this point out, it has become clear that this is not a rebuilding year. The six freshmen have proven themselves solid contributors and a few have shown they have star qualities. I thought it’d be interesting to take a look at the team’s PPS before the addition of Keith Carter, who will most likely be inserted right into the starting lineup starting Saturday in the UCF tournament. The team has been led by freshman phenom Alec Peters, who has already gone over 30 points on several occasions this year. With coach Bryce Drew signing a 10 year contract extension (I know that these contracts are sometimes just a novelty, but with the Drew-Valpo connection I think it will be quite sometime before we worry about him leaving), a real good freshmen class along with experienced upperclassmen this Valpo team will be right in the mix for a 3rd consecutive Horizon League title.

David Chadwick (Jr, F) and Nick Davidson (Fr, G) have only played 49 and 41 minutes respectively and don’t figure to play much once the conference slate begins.
Notre Dame vs Indiana – Game #11
Indiana (8-3) lost 79-72 to Notre Dame yesterday in a game where they never held the lead. Indiana struggled defensively and is beginning to look like a team without an identity. I’ve been harping on this all season but I’m baffled as to why Hanner Mosquera-Perea isn’t seeing much playing time on a team that isn’t very good. Some of the substitution rotations are just as baffling as I begin to wonder if Coach Crean is losing patience with his young team. PPS is below:

IU PPS – 2013-14
Just a reminder that you can find the year to date PPS for IU players at this link:
https://cbbpps.wordpress.com/iu-pps-2013-14/
Here is what you might be missing:
Here is the PPS through 10 games for the IU players that more than 85 total minutes. Sheehey and Hollowell could basically be replaced by any scholarship player at this point and you’d see the same production. That’s very discouraging for two guys that were supposed to be major parts of the team this year.
Keep in mind that we use .70 as an all-conference player, .80 as an All-American player and .90 as a future pro.

North Florida vs Indiana – Game #9
Sorry for the delay as it took me a bit to get the correct stats for this game that IU won 89-68 on 12/7. Here is the PPS as I’m disappointed to see Perea with only 8 minutes.

Indiana vs Syracuse – Game #8
It was a very ugly game last night as Indiana, by my count, had two field goals in the last 18 minutes and that led to a 69-52 loss to #4 Syracuse. Noah Vonleh was the only Hoosier with a respectable PPS as most of his points were earned at the free throw line. Indiana looked good for about ten minutes in the first half but other than that this game wasn’t even close.

Evansville vs Indiana – Game #7
Indiana (6-1) smashwalloped Evansville (5-1) 77-46 last night as Jeremy Hollowell was on fire from the field and Evansville couldn’t engineer much offense. IU continues to dominate teams on the offensive boards and whether or not that’s because they miss a lot of shots isn’t for us to argue about the day before Thanksgiving.

UConn beat Indiana 59-58 in Madison Square Garden as Noah Vonleh picked up two fouls in the first two minutes and IU could never get on track offensively.

Washington vs Indiana – Game #5
Indiana improved to 5-0 on the season with a strong 102-84 victory last night at Madison Square Garden. While IU’s perimeter defense struggled they out-worked Washington on the boards to the tune of a 36-24 rebounding advantage. Coach Crean shortened the bench and I assume that the reason is because the starters were playing well but….they begin to lose their efficiency at some point so he should keep moving guys in and out of the game.
